Gaming Industry to Create 1,000,000 New Jobs in FY23: Report

The gaming industry is expected to create a lakh new jobs by 2022-2023, in all fields including programming, testing, animation and design, according to a report.

The sector is expected to grow 20-30% and add one lakh new direct and indirect jobs by FY23, TeamLease Digital said in a report – Gaming: Tomorrow’s Blockbuster.

Currently, the sector directly employs around 50,000 people with 30% of the workforce being programmers and developers. Over the next year, the sector will add new jobs in areas such as programming (game developers, unit developers), testing (game test engineering, quality assurance manager), animation ( animators), design (motion graphics designers, virtual reality designers), artist (VFX and concept artists), and other miscellaneous roles (content writers, game journalists, web analyst). Salary-wise, the highest earning profiles in the gaming industry include Game Producers (Rs 10 lakh per year), Game Designers (Rs 6.5 LPA), Software Engineers (Rs 5, 5 LPA), game developers (Rs 5.25 LPA) and QA testers (Rs 5.11 LPA), the report states.

“The gaming industry is the next booming industry due to its growing user base and the opportunities this industry is poised to provide. It offers jobs in all sectors, which makes it more in demand.

“Despite the hurdles faced due to frequent regulatory changes, the gaming industry is expected to create 1 lakh jobs by FY23 and grow 2.5x by 2026,” said Sunil Chemmankotil, CEO from Teamlease Digital.
