Murgitroyd acquires rival IP firm in Glasgow

Murgitroyd has acquired rival intellectual property (IP) protection firm Creation IP.

The acquisition – for an undisclosed amount – is the company’s third transaction in the last eight months.

Creation’s client list ranges from Scotland-based spin-outs and start-ups to large corporations and US-based companies.

Founded in 2012 by Bryn Williams and John Collins – both experienced patent attorneys who worked together at another UK IP firm – the business now has 12 staff, all of whom will transfer to Murgitroyd when completed.

The company will relocate from its current base at the Hillington Park Innovation Center to its Murgitroyd headquarters, five miles away in central Glasgow.

The deal brings Murgitroyd’s membership to over 450.

Gordon Stark, Managing Director of Murgitroyd, said, “Creation IP’s focus on building strong, lasting and trust-based relationships with clients aligns closely with our own approach and translates into a strong experience in supporting innovative companies that bring new products and services to market.

Collins added: “By joining forces, we can now provide our customers with an even wider range and depth of services to protect their ideas, innovations and inventions and we are confident that the Creation IP team will make a significant contribution to Murgitroyd’s ambitious growth plans. for the future.”

The deal follows Murgitroyd’s purchase of Irish intellectual property firm Hanna Moore + Curley in September, followed by another UK firm, UDL Intellectual Property, in November.
