New competition seeks out Scotland’s best start-ups

The search is underway to crown the best start-ups in Scotland.

The National StartUp Awards Series was launched across the UK from a springboard from the Wales StartUp Awards; a six-year rewards project.

It will recognize the accomplishments of people who had a great idea, spotted the opportunity, and took the risks of launching a new product or service.

The initiative will champion and connect start-ups in all parts of the UK with rewards for:

  • London and the East of England
  • The Midlands
  • North Ireland
  • North West England
  • Scotland
  • South East England
  • South West England
  • Wales
  • Yorkshire, Humberside and North East England

According to UK government statistics, over 1.2 million new start-ups have been created in the last two fiscal years, meaning a new business is created in the UK every minute.

It’s an encouraging sign that industries across the country are starting to recover from the chaos caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Professor Dylan Jones-Evans, the creator of the national StartUp Awards series, believes the entrepreneurial community will be the driving force behind the growth of the UK economy in the coming years.

“As we emerge from the economic downturn caused by the pandemic, dynamic and hard-working entrepreneurs in all parts of the UK will be essential not only to rebuild the economy, but also to rebuild it better.

“The national series of StartUp Awards will celebrate the incredible contribution of founders and their companies in every country and region to innovation, job creation and prosperity. that will inspire others to follow in their footsteps.

Piers Linney, the serial entrepreneur, former BBC Dragon dragon lair and Managing Director of Moblox – which joins the jury for the National StartUp Awards Series – said: “Small businesses are the backbone of the UK economy, and with everything the country has been through in the last 18 month it is over we are helping entrepreneurs and business owners grow and be successful.

“I am delighted to be joining the jury for the National StartUp Awards Series and I am delighted to see entrepreneurial talent emerge from each region. “

The deadline for entries for the StartUp Awards National Series is February 28, with the national and regional finals taking place in June.
