Skillz Appoints Game Industry Veteran Vassily Filippov Chief Technology Officer


SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Skill (NYSE: SKLZ), the leading mobile gaming platform, today announced the appointment of Vassily Filippov as Chief Technology Officer. A seasoned gaming leader who most recently served as Director of Engineering at Meta, Filippov joins the Skillz C suite, bolstering the company’s leadership team and product leadership.

As Chief Technology Officer, Filippov will report directly to Paradise while leading Skillz’s global engineering teams. As the company focuses on profitable growth, Filippov will be responsible for the technical roadmap of the Skillz competition platform.

Growing up playing Atari 800XL and C64 games, Filippov has turned his childhood passion for video games into a long career with over 20 years in the gaming industry. Filippov has created games at studios such as Sony , Riot Games and Sierra On-Line, working on franchises such as “God of War” and “League of Legends”.

More recently, Filippov has focused on growing teams and creating products connected to augmented reality/virtual reality and the metaverse. At Meta, Filippov focused on the Horizon Worlds and Avatars teams, preparing the company to announce a major focus on the metaverse (including its recent name change). At Apple, he helped lead the development of RealityKit and Reality Composer.

Filippov received his Master of Science in Computer Science from The Ohio State University, as well as a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics from the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute).
