South West Business Insider December 2021

Look ahead

As another remarkable year draws to a close, our thoughts naturally turn to the future and what 2022 has in store for us. While the Christmas holidays provide the perfect opportunity to breathe, now is the time to get ready and prepare for the New Year and all the exciting opportunities that lie ahead.

After two years of roller coasters, it would take a brave individual to predict what 2022 has in store for the Southwest and its economy. However, one thing we can say with absolute clarity is that the region is doing remarkably well.

The transaction market has never been so busy and the real estate sector continues to strengthen. Perhaps most important of all, however, the tech sector and the group of companies around Bristol are making a name for themselves. And it’s not just here in the UK, but around the world.

Business Leader of the Month Tom Carter, who has taken over the role of CEO of Ultraleap, speaks in detail about his vision for the company he founded. Ultraleap works in the area of hands-free technology and appears to be at the forefront of emerging technology that will help power our computers in the future.

Our flagship article this month shines a light on the most important part of the economy: midsize businesses. Our midsize businesses are the backbone of the economy, but often don’t get the recognition they so deserve. We list these companies in order of productivity, and the table is chock-full of some of the most well-known names in the region.

While this issue of Insider is all forward-looking, we’ve indulged in a bit of nostalgia as well. As 2021 marked the 15th anniversary of our Dealmakers Awards, we take a look at the history of this prestigious event and shine a light on some of the winners from years past. Enjoy.
