The convenience industry unites to honor local heroes

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Local heroes who serve their communities around the clock are recognized on July 24, also known as 24/7 Day.

Approximately 30,000 convenience stores across the country will celebrate their hometown heroes on 24/7, recognizing first responders, medical personnel, 9-1-1 professionals and Red Cross volunteers who work 24/7. 7 to make sure people don’t face emergencies alone.

Participating retailers are each supporting 24/7 in their own way, offering free coffee, fountain and frozen drinks at a free breakfast and free bottled water for first responders in uniform or with a badge. Hosted by the NACS Foundation, 24/7 Day also supports the American Red Cross by raising awareness and donating for this vital organization, while highlighting the importance of the convenience industry in supporting all local heroes in communities. in which they serve.

On average, the American Red Cross helps more than 21,000 people every day, providing everything from disaster relief and support to humanitarian assistance. For every $1 donation from the Red Cross, 90 cents is invested in providing care and comfort to those in need.

“Troubleshooters are often the first supporters of first responders. With their 24/7 operations, convenience stores are often the only place open to serve first responders and medical personnel working overnight. Convenience stores also help ensure that fuel, water, food and other necessities are available to relief workers and customers for the duration of disasters and have been instrumental as the COVID-19 pandemic 19 continues to impact everyday life,” said Stephanie Sikorski, Executive Director of the NACS Foundation.

There are convenience stores in every community across the country; 93% of Americans live within 10 minutes of a convenience store, including 86% of rural Americans. The country’s more than 148,000 convenience stores perform 160 million transactions a day, which is equivalent to serving half of the American population daily.
